Back in PA from Monhegan.

Finally back in the PA studio and missing the island already.  It was a fantastic 3 weeks full of painting, friends, teaching, new experiences and beautiful weather.

This year marked my 5th year of holding an open studio on Monhegan and each year gets better. Thanks to Bradley Hendershot for helping to make this year special. He manned the studio while I was teaching my "Super Small" three day workshop (my first on the island). That was a terrific experience and a heck of a lot of fun so I am doing it again next summer. Thanks to the great students this year and the wonderful feedback!!! In addition, Brad and I were invited to come back and teach a two person workshop next summer during July 2015. Brad will be handling the watercolor part and I will teach a plein air workshop for oil painting. So I will have 2 classes to offer next summer. We are both very excited about it. Exact dates and info will be coming on that.
The open studio was a success with many paintings finding homes. We held two receptions during our stay and had lots of people come by to check it out. The sales were terrific but I found that I also loved the chance of meeting so many wonderful people who came in and all the  many cool and funny stories about Monhegan. That doesn't happen too often in the studio here in PA.  I continue to believe that one of the best things about an open studio is the ability to show a range of work. When I first had an open studio I was hesitant about showing my oils, watercolors and charcoals together as well as the different subject matters. I thought it would be too disjointed but I am convinced it works and people say they like to see the variety - and since I like to paint the variety I will keep doing it.
It's been a lot of work but very rewarding. The rest of the next few days will be updating records, paperwork, taxes, shipping out sold paintings, laundry, writing up next year's workshop for publication. Then, on to prep work for next month's two person show with Brad Hendershot at Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, PA which will be in the next blog post. Until then, here are some of the paintings that found homes. Can't wait for next year!
